Grand opening of Sunnymead Sensory Garden

On 9th September 2017 residents and staff of Sunnymead Residential home in Armagh were very excited to welcome family and friends to their very special event, the grand opening of their new Sensory Garden.

A sensory garden is a garden environment that is designed with the purpose of stimulating the senses. This stimulation occurs courtesy of plants and the use of materials that engage one’s senses of sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. The opening of the sensory garden in Sunnymead will provide a wonderful opportunity to residents to get out and about safely in a beautiful outdoor space.

Also present at this event were two very special guests in Paul Clarke MBE, Television Presenter and Journalist and Adeline McCauley a former resident of Sunnymead who turned 100 years old this year and who very kindly cut the ribbon for the official opening.

Sunnymead would like to thank all members of Sunnymead Community Association for their fantastic effort in fundraising for the garden. A cheque for a grand total of £7000 handed over at the opening.

Also in order to celebrate this wonderful event, residents and staff of Sunnymead decided to raise money for the Southern Area Hospice and Sunnymead would like to thank everyone for their very kind donations to this worthy cause.
