Portadown care home manager make the movies!

Amanda Leitch from Portadown is manager of Sunnymead Residential Home Armagh. Amanda has recently stepped in front of the camera to star in an educational film about how to improve quality of life for older people who live in care homes. Amanda was flown to York, England where she spent the day filming under the spotlight with the film crew from the cable company ‘Age Care Channel’. The film will demonstrate how Sunnymead has pioneered initiatives to improve the voice, choice and control of the older people who live in Sunnymead through its My Home Life project.

‘My Home Life’ is an initiative that aims to celebrate existing best practice in care homes and promote care settings as a positive option for older people. The film will be screened in the UK in February 2013.  Amanda says ‘It is a great honour for the Sunnymead staff to be recognised for their quality of care and creative approaches in relation to ensuring our Residents live happy, fulfilled and purposeful lives from Sunnymead’. She added ‘it certainly was unusual as a care home manager to spend the day on a film set and I hope our story will inspire those who care for older people to appreciate that their job is not just about tasks; it’s about caring for another human being, and understanding that’s it’s the little things that make a difference.’
